New equipment for the warm weather!

Youth members Brandy and Aryanna model new tank tops before going out to Balboa Park for Boot Camp, and Dee demonstrates her softball skills with our freshly-acquired Louisville Slugger bat (only the best for our members) and MLB baseball helmet.  If you're tired of being stuck inside all day after school, come in on Mondays and Fridays to try out our new stuff during Boot Camp!

Don't mess with Dr./Chef Cain

Today, our multitalented coordinator treated members to a wonderful spaghetti dinner, complete with a sweet tomato sauce with bell peppers, spinach and mushrooms, green salad and garlic bread.  We cook dinner every Wednesday, and members are encouraged to help (check out our photo gallery for the hamburger-making extravaganza the week before!).  During May, we plan to have breakfast foods, fettucini alfredo, and chicken teriyaki...all on different days, of course.  Our last Wednesday night dinner for April will be pulled pork tacos.

If you have healthy meal ideas, leave a blog message, or place it in the Wolfpack Suggestions Box at the Youth Center!

We walk, we talk, we sit in giant trees...

Members and staff pause during a 1.5 hour walk from the Youth Center through Balboa Park. We usually take leisurely walks through Banker's Hill, Little Italy, Balboa Park or Hillcrest for an hour before Wednesday night dinners, but decided to go for a bit longer to enjoy the beautiful day outside. Join us for Walk y Talk(y) on Wednesdays!

Are YOU a Health Champion?

Youth Center members (specifically those between 13-19),

This Wednesday, we will begin a 2-month program called "Health Champions," which will be held during our usual Health Circle after dinner.  The program will help us to better understand the basics of nutrition and fitness, as well as introduce us to careers within the health field (such as nurse, dietitian, nutritionist, dentist, doctor, personal trainer, etc.) and how we as community members can improve the areas we live in for healthier neighborhoods.

*Incentive alert*: Those youth members who fully participate (which means attending AND joining in on discussions, physical activities and games) in these special Health Circle sessions will be treated to a FREE field trip to Souplantation, and get a bunch of other goodies from the program.  There is also the possibility that we will get a tour of the Souplantation corporate offices to get a first-hand glance into the company!  Be sure to sign up this or next week for the program.

We hope to see you this and every Wednesday for this special program.  We may even make the barbacoa tacos pictured here, courtesy of the Food.People.Want blog (click here for the recipe and original picture).

Rap Versus Bling: The East v South
The reason I put this picture on the blog is because I listen to these two rappers on Youtube.
